calgary

this shot was taken by jeff way the last time lara and i were in calgary. the location in the shot is a small skatepark, a rather out-of-the-way place, situated by a ymca.
jeff and i skated this park one night; apparently after it had closed (no skating after the lights go out - go figure). we skated anyway, there was enough light coming off the parking lot and so we were still able to ride most of the park. the only place that didn't have enough light to skate properly was the bowl (where this shot was taken). every time jeff popped off his flash i was effectively rendered blind. i don't mind though, i quite like the picture.
the park itself is laid out in a u-shape and features coping and a bowl at one end, and a few pyramids on the other. it's a pretty fun little park. one side is nice for tech (flip) tricks and the other end is nice for grinds and carving (a little more old school). for the most part i stayed at the end with the coping, i pulled off a few pretty nice 50-50's, rock-to-fakies and dropped in and carved the bowl for a few drunken teenagers' applause*.

*my skating has impressed quite a few drunken teenagers on more than one occasion, as ryan proulx can attest to.
